Businesses Support Legislation for an Energy Efficiency Goal in North Carolina

On May 26, 30 businesses, nonprofits, and trade associations with interests in North Carolina submitted a letter to the NC Senate in support of House Bill 245 – the Efficient Government Buildings and Savings Act – to reduce energy consumption in state-owned buildings by 40% by 2028.

Several Combined Heat and Power Alliance members signed onto this effort because in HB 245’s current form, CHP qualifies under the definition of an “Energy conservation measure.”

  • Cogeneration systems that produce steam or forms of energy such as heat, as well as electricity, for use primarily within a building or complex of building.
