Today, Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that he is signing an Executive Order that will allow the Commonwealth to move forward with planning for Virginia’s Clean Power Plan (CPP). The Alliance’s Executive Director, Jennifer Kefer, issued a statement supporting Governor McAuliffe’s dedication and encouraging the governor to consider opportunities in the industrial sector — including combined heat and power (CHP) and waste heat to power (WHP) – as he develops its plan. Virginia’s CHP potential alone could produce more power than eight conventional power plants and meet half of Virginia’s required greenhouse gas pollution reductions under the CPP. Investing in CHP would also lower energy bills for all Virginians and reduce operating expenses for Virginia’s industrial manufacturers, making them more globally competitive.
