The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency released the following statement from its Executive Director David Gardiner upon learning that Ohio Governor DeWine signed House Bill 6 into law.

WASHINGTON (July 23, 2019) — “Today, Ohio Governor DeWine signed House Bill 6 into law, which weakens Ohio’s energy efficiency standards. The legislation is major step backwards for Ohio and the competitiveness of its manufacturers.

“The bill sharply reduces the potential for energy cost savings at Ohio manufacturing plants, making them less able to compete in the global economy. Improved industrial energy efficiency and combined heat and power could save Ohio businesses $12.5 billion by 2030 and those savings are now very much in doubt.

Additionally, energy efficiency remains Ohio’s largest clean energy employer—energy efficiency accounted for nearly 82,000 jobs, or 72% of the clean energy work force in 2018—and weakening the efficiency standard will stall job growth in the state.”
