April 24, 2024 — The Northeast Chapter of the CHP Alliance sent a letter to the Rhode Island Senate regarding the state’s Clean Heat Standard Act. The Chapter urged Rhode Island to adopt a standard that is technologically agnostic and recognizes the benefits of any tool — including CHP — that can deliver near-term emissions reductions.
The expressed purpose of the Rhode Island Clean Heat Standard Act is “to reduce greenhouse gas emissions attributable to the Rhode Island thermal sector.” CHP can help deliver on this goal at a crucial time for Rhode Island — the state has recently experienced a rise in greenhouse gas emissions from its power plants. CHP can both serve as a transitional technology, bridging the gap as Rhode Island moves to electrification, and fill the gaps by addressing difficult to decarbonize sectors.
