EPA proposed historic regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act. The Alliance issued a press release applauding EPA for recognizing the benefits of energy efficiency in the proposed rule and for providing flexibility to states to decide how to meet the required reductions. Under the proposal, states may develop plans to join or create new cap-and-trade programs, deploy more renewable energy, or ramp up energy-efficiency technologies, including combined heat and power (CHP) and waste heat to power (WHP). Energy efficiency – including CHP and WHP – is the cheapest, cleanest, and most readily available energy resource. These technologies can reduce pollution and boost states’ economies by reducing energy costs. Click here to read the Alliance’s press release.
