On March 13, the Combined Heat and Power Alliance wrote letters to the Maryland House Economic Matters Committee and Senate Finance Committee expressing the Alliance’s support for Governor Hogan’s Clean and Renewable Energy Standard (CARES). This legislation would modify standards for electricity sales to include clean and renewable energy, including combined heat and power (CHP) systems. The Combined Heat and Power Alliance supports the CARES bill because it acknowledges the efficiency and carbon reduction benefits of CHP systems, especially in sectors where energy loads are hard to decarbonize, and it would help Maryland reach its long-term carbon reduction goals.

The letter to the House is available here and the letter to the Senate is available here.
