July 7, 2025 – The Combined Heat and Power Alliance submitted comments to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regarding SoCalGas’ proposed Microgrid Option Tariff (MOT).This MOT would support the development of microgrids in SoCalGas’ service area to help non-residential customers meet their needs by providing reliable, resilient, and sustainable onsite energy solutions.
The CHP Alliance urged the CPUC to explicitly include CHP systems as an eligible technology under the MOT because CHP is a reliable, efficient, and low-emitting technology for onsite energy generation. CHP is especially well-suited to support critical facilities such as hospitals, data centers, and military bases, by ensuring they can continue operating during grid outages and other unforeseen events. Including CHP would advance SoCalGas’ goal of resilience while also supporting California’s climate goals.
