Alliance Urges Senate Support for Tax Extenders Package

As Congress prepares to take up the tax extenders package next week, the Alliance for Industrial Efficiency, along with 34 other businesses and clean- energy advocates, sent a letter to Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee, urging their support for an extension of the Investment Tax Credit contained in Section 48 of the tax code. CHP projects have long project lead times and the current “placed in service” requirement effectively bars new CHP projects from taking advantage of the tax credit by the end of 2016. Our hope is that the ITC is extended five years to 2021 and that the current “placed in service” requirement is amended to a “commenced construction” standard.
