June 6, 2025 – The Northeast Chapter of the CHP Alliance filed comments with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) urging the Board to restore full funding for CHP and fuel cell technologies and extend the NJ Clean Energy Program’s Combined Heat and Power – Fuel Cell (CHP-FC) Program through the end of Fiscal Year 2026.
The Chapter strongly objects the BPU’s recommendation to drastically reduce FY26 funding level for Distributed Energy Resources to $12.6 million—down from $93.2 million in FY25. Notably, CHP-FC received $31.5 million in FY25, yet suggestions only allocate $10.2 million, falling far short of the level necessary to sustain progress.
CHP is essential for reducing marginal grid emissions in the near term and supporting New Jersey’s broader goal of full grid decarbonization. CHP systems provide multiple, proven benefits, including emissions reductions, improved energy efficiency, grid resiliency, economic development, among others. These benefits make CHP a critical near-term solution for delivering cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable energy to communities across New Jersey.
