The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency submitted comments to DOE responding to a Request for Information concerning a potential Energy Conservation Program for Gas Compressors. Our comments highlighted the potential role of Waste Heat to Power to capture otherwise wasted gas from compressor stations along transmission lines to generate clean and efficient power. Alliance member, Ormat Technologies, has already installed 19 WHP systems generating 100 MW of clean power at gas compressor stations around the United States. With the right incentives, similar technology could be installed at many of the nation’s 1,400 compressor stations on natural gas pipelines. The Alliance urged DOE to consider this technology when developing efficiency standards for gas compressors. You can read our comments online here.
