The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency released the following statement upon learning that Senator King has introduced legislation to authorize the Department of Energy’s Combined Heat and Power Technical Partnership Program through 2022.
WASHINGTON (Nov. 16, 2017) — “The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency applauds Senator King (I-ME) for his leadership in introducing The Combined Heat and Power Support Act (S.2142), which authorizes the Department of Energy’s Combined Heat and Power Technical Partnership Program (‘CHP TAPs’). The CHP TAPs and the supporting efforts of the DOE Advanced Manufacturing Office’s Technical Assistance Partnerships save consumers money, increase economic competitiveness, strengthen our nation’s energy security, and reduce harmful emissions through the use of CHP. By authorizing the continuation of the CHP TAPs, Senator King will help manufacturers, universities, and institutions save money, reduce their energy use, increase their reliability in the face of extreme weather events that may compromise the grid, and lower their emissions.
“Earlier this fall, Senator King convened a field hearing in Maine to initiate a conversation about the importance of clean energy for the local economy. Today, Senator King has jump-started a national dialogue about how CHP can help make American manufacturing more competitive. DOE has identified 149 gigawatts – the equivalent of nearly 300 conventional power plants – of remaining technical potential for CHP at facilities across the country. By authorizing the continued funding for the CHP TAPs, this bill will help realize this potential, allowing end users nationwide to identify opportunities and overcome barriers to CHP use.
