On March 13th, the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Workers Local 12 (SMART) union and the Western Pennsylvania chapter of Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) hosted legislators and business leaders for an event highlighting the benefits of energy efficiency for Pennsylvania’s economy, including job creation. Attendees included State Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa (Allegheny), Senator Camera Bartolotta (Washington/Greene/Beaver) and Senator Elder Vogel (Beaver/Butler/Lawrence). The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency helped organize this event with the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance, Blue Green Alliance and the National Electrical Contractors Association.
The event featured a tour of the SMART Local 12 Training Center, where apprentices receive hands-on training to learn the skills necessary for jobs in energy efficiency throughout Western Pennsylvania. Read the press release here.
