June 12, 2023 (Washington, D.C.) — Today the NE Chapter of the CHP Alliance and two dozen organizations with interest in combined heat and power (CHP) jointly submitted comments to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities regarding its comprehensive energy efficiency and renewable energy resource analysis of the New Jersey Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) which includes FY2024 funding for CHP and microgrids.
The straw proposal intends to advance Gov. Phil Murphy’s clean electricity goals and to “recognize the value of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and distributed energy resources as foundational energy resources that, when delivered cost-effectively, reduce the cost of energy for all ratepayers while providing additional benefits.”
The BPU’s FY24 proposal recognizes that distributed energy resources when delivered cost-effectively, reduce the cost of energy for all ratepayers while providing additional benefits. The proposal also properly recognizes the numerous benefits of CHP, including impacts ability to reduce CO2 emissions by displacing dirtier grid resource, save money by operating at higher efficiency, and evolve to use low or non-emitting fuel sources.
Signatories to the NE Chapter’s letter heartily endorse the BPU’s conclusions which underscore how CHP can reduce energy costs for all ratepayers while providing additional efficiency, emissions reduction, and reliability benefits.
