Today, the Alliance for Industrial Efficiency sent a letter to Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Brian Schatz (D-HI) to thank them for introducing the Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives Act (S. 2189). S. 2189 makes the existing investment tax credit for combined heat and power (CHP) more robust, by establishing a tiered tax credit (ranging from 10-30%) based on a project’s efficiency. It also eliminates historic size and capacity constraints, which limited use of the existing credit and clarifies that the credit extends to waste heat to power (WHP). This important piece of legislation will make American manufacturers more competitive, create jobs, and enhance the reliability of our electric infrastructure by encouraging greater use of efficient CHP and clean WHP.
