WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 23, 2018) – Today, Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018. In response, Jennifer Kefer, Executive Director of the Alliance for Industrial Efficiency issued the following statement:
“Today, Congress passed a robust budget that will help advance critical programs. The Alliance for Industrial Efficiency celebrates Congress’ passage of the Omnibus Appropriations Bill for FY2018, which reaffirms the value of energy efficiency by providing full funding ($12 million) for the Department of Energy Combined Heat and Power Technical Assistance Partnerships (CHP TAPs) and the technical partnership program and expressly supports the continuation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s CHP Partnership. These programs provide valuable technical support, identify best practice policies, and help overcome barriers to CHP deployment.
“Because it generates both heat and electricity from a single fuel source, CHP is twice as efficient as conventional power generation. Further, CHP utilizes locally available fuel to increase energy independence. By providing full funding to the CHP TAPs and explicitly acknowledging the importance of EPA’s CHP Partnership, Congress is supporting the energy system and electric grid of the future and helping manufacturers save money, reduce their energy use, and increase their reliability in the face of extreme weather events that may compromise the grid, and lower their emissions.
The Alliance is grateful to Congress for its support of industrial energy efficiency. As Congress turns its attention to FY2019, we are hopeful that it will double down on this investment by continuing to fund these important programs.”
